Ummah Platform Demo

Payments infrastructure for Muslim charities and the platforms that serve them. Every charity on Ummah takes cards through one Adyen account, keeps its own balance, and is paid out on its own schedule, with Ummah's fee taken at the moment each payment is authorised.

Each app is the real code, running here. Ask the presenter for the two staff logins; donors sign in with an emailed code.

Demo script: one donor, many charities

Aisha gives through a charity fundraising site, never types her card twice, adds Gift Aid once, plans her last ten nights of Ramadan across three charities, and the charities see it all in their portal. Every step is a real Adyen TEST payment.

  1. Arrive on Barakah's Friday Food Bank appeal. Choose Zakat and £25, tick "cover the fees", Continue to payment. Ummah's payment form appears with Pay with Ummah Passport above the card fields; Barakah has no Passport code at all.
  2. Create the Passport in the window. Click the button: a Passport window opens. Enter a new email; the code arrives in the mail inbox. Tick Gift Aid (details once), Hear from the charity and Make it monthly, then pay with test card 4111 1111 1111 1111, 03/30, 737. The window closes and Barakah shows its own thank-you.
  3. Give to a charity she has never used. Open SimplyDonate's Winter Warmth, Continue, Pay with Ummah Passport: the window already knows her. One tap on the saved card; Gift Aid is one tick. With card 4917 6100 0000 0000 the bank asks for a check (answer "password") the first time at a new charity, in the window.
  4. Plan the last ten nights. In Passport → Plans split a nightly gift across three charities, then "Give the next night's gift now": every charity is charged directly, no card entry, no bank check.
  5. One statement for the year. Passport → Statement shows every gift, the Gift Aid each charity can claim, and Zakat kept apart from Sadaqah.
  6. The charity's side. In the merchant portal → Gift Aid (SimplyDonate) the declaration, the gifts it covers, the 25% claim and the HMRC schedule CSV; Customers shows the Passport, Gift Aid and contact badges.
  7. Ummah's side. The back office → Passport donors shows the network: one donor, one card, many charities.

How money moves

A £25.00 gift to East London Mosque, as booked in this demo. The charity's split profile is 1.5% plus 20p; Adyen applies it at authorisation, so the charity's balance and Ummah's commission exist the moment the card is approved.

Numbers are from a real demo payment: seller split £24.42, Ummah fixed fee 20p, Ummah variable fee 38p. Refunds, disputes and payouts move through the same balance accounts.

One gift, end to end

  1. The charity shares a payment link from its portal, by email, social or a QR code. No integration needed.
  2. The donor pays on Ummah's hosted checkout. Card fields are Adyen's own, so card numbers never touch Ummah or the charity.
  3. Ummah sends the payment with its split. The charity's split profile is frozen on the session, so the price cannot change mid-payment.
  4. Adyen authorises and books the split. The charity's balance and Ummah's commission land in separate balance accounts at once.
  5. Events flow back. Webhooks update the payment, the ledger and the charity's own webhook; receipts and notifications go out.
  6. The charity is paid out. Sweeps move the balance to the charity's bank on its schedule; Ummah's commission stays in Ummah's account.

Ummah Passport

A donor registers once, saves one card, and gives to any charity on Ummah with one tap. The card is stored once with Adyen under the donor; each charity holds an ordinary customer record pointing at it, so nothing changes for the charity.

Donor's Passport one identity · email code · consent SimplyDonate customer · first gift, card saved £15.00 · new card East London Mosque customer · never paid before £25.00 · one tap Any charity on Ummah customer created on first gift one tap One card token at Adyen stored under the Passport, not the charity

What changes for a charity: a "Passport" tag on the customer. What changes for Ummah: the donor relationship, across every charity, with the economics untouched.

What is running here

The whole platform on one machine, from the same code as the hosted environments: four web apps, four backend services, and the data services they need. Card payments go to Adyen's TEST environment.

Front door one address a port per app Passport app Merchant portal Back office Hosted checkout Platform APIall four apps call it Background services Worker · payouts, schedules Webhook ingress Notification sender queue-driven Data PostgreSQL · ledger, merchants Redis · queues, rate limits Messaging · storage · mail SNS/SQS, S3, SMTP stand-ins Adyen TEST payments, splits balance platform card token vault

In production the same services run on AWS ECS behind CloudFront and a web application firewall, with managed Postgres and Redis. This demo trades that redundancy for one machine you can bring up with one command.
